How do people do the press in such a water-plentiful place?

Unfortunately, I live in San Diego and I'm only here for another couple of weeks. But from what I hear it's across the board though. You have to fight with the beauticians here to get a simple doobie wrap. They are too lazy to roller set you and put you under the dryer. They'd rather blow dry your hair and press it rather than wet set/ wrap it, and they STILL wanna charge you an arm and a leg for half ass work. On top of that, I prefer the "Chi" over the stove curlers but they only use those in hair shows out here!! Lawd I can't wait to get back to the south! I remember a Soror on another board commenting on how Californian women had that "unwrapped" look.

edited to add: Several sistas that hate getting their hair fried have suggested that if you're gonna stay out here you should invest in a sit-under dryer (they run about $30 give or take), purchase the hair products from the salon, and maintain your own hair. Otherwise, you're going to pay an arm and a leg for nothing.
