For a minority to just think he has something in common with white hate groups is ridiculous. It reminds me of the episode of the Dave Chapelle show where he was a black member of the KKK - except he was blind and didn't know it.

I don't think that ever was an issue... the two issues concerning the case are (he's appealing) this:

1) This man was a dedicated and powerful advocate/defended of his ethnic community, and was involved in fighting a number of major cases concerning previous insensitve/racist polices of the British/Canadian government (residential school system), or by racist cops (like the ones in Edmonton that liked to drop drunk Native Canadians out past city limits in the dead of winter - which led to a number freezing to death). For him to not be aware of how ignorant and racist his comments were is appalling; and for a crusader for his people's rights to fall because of racism is even moreso.

2) A number of White Power/Nation/Whatever groups got behind him and provided legal and financial support - because in their eyes they thought they had the perfect candidate to challenge "the Jews" and/or defend their freedom to make hateful/racist comments (a freedom of speech defense). I think they ('White' groups) figured that having a minority member making the charges against "Jews" was more likely to succeed in court... for an indication of this I suggest swinging by one of the major "White power" websites like Stormfront (if you can stomach the crap there).
