I think staying away from the "Fratastic" guys that only want to drink, party and get laid is key. Also, be up front with what is going to go on during pledgship, what you expect from the pledges and what they will receive in return. Setting standards for members above IFC requirements really helps. From there it's a matter of everyone getting along. I thoroughly enjoyed my pledging semester and getting to know a new group of friends. We also only lost one guy during pledgship but he basically replaced himself with an excellent brother and another guy that just couldn't make grades and had to drop out of school.
