Architecture Lesson

In 1907, Emily Butterfield became the first woman in Michigan to become a licensed architect. She planned 26 churches as well as homes, schools, factories, and stores. She also published a children’s book, Young People’s History of Architecture, to help children learn about her trade...Sharon Sutton has had a very diverse career, including as a noted architect. She was the first African American woman to be promoted to full professor of architecture in the United States, and she was the second African American woman advanced to fellowship in the American Institute of Architects.
