I think the real problem people have with freedom of speech is that they can't or don't want to grasp the whole picture. Its fine when someone supports YOUR speech... but in order for us to really support freedom of speech you have to accept that that means other people have the right to the freedom of THEIR speech. You have to accept that you can hang your flag every morning while your neighbor burns one in protest everyday (although I imagine that would get old after awhile and hopefully they would find a new means of protest!)

I think this is why some people have problems with certain ACLU cases or lawyers because they take on clients and cases that focus on unpopular issues like the right to burn a flag, the Klan to have a rally, etc.

Just because you support free speech that does not mean you support things you don't agree with (such as flag burning), but you support every person's right to voice their own opinions.
