why would anyone have a problem with an organization that protects (or attempts to) our civil liberties? Granted I do believe that they sometimes take it to the extremes, but you also need the extremes to find the middle.

Amen. I tend to be more liberal (which is actually conservative in other parts of the country), and I don't agree with the ACLU on some points. But you gotta have those crazy far-left/righters to figure out how far you'll stretch your own beliefs.
