They police officers have been doing the same thing at the University of Tennessee since my sophomore year in 2002. We got ranked #1 party school in the country my fresh. year and the school wanted to make sure that never happened again. The only difference is the officers do not call before they come over and they are not hesitant to write citations. The majority of the fraterntiies on the row get alcohol citations friday and saturday nights during the fall when the police randomly decide to wander in fraternity houses
As long as there are no kegs, a plethora of cases, or alcohol in an open place, then there's no problems. If the police start to dislike your fraternity and target your chapter, your in deep doo-doo. Thank god my chapter gets along with them.
Anyway, I don't blame the police, most of the officers are really cool guys that you can talk to for awhile and they are willing to help you out whenever. I think that our schools administration is ridiculous and you can say they do not give a crap about greeks. At a school with 30,000 people with the crappy houses we have compared to other SEC schools, the large amount of rules we have, and the wide police discretion allowed on a college campus is flat out ridiculous. I believe the officers should do their primary role of peacekeeping and the University should not make the officers have zero-tolerance policing.
