i do know that at some schools is texas(and elsewhere) juniors are not figured into the quota. in other words, juniors are freebies. say quota is 50 and xyz sorority has 50 girls they want to pledge. they can take those 50 girls plus one or two juniors for a total new member class of 51 or 52.don't know is shsu is one of those. i don't think you should worry about your grade point. it is pretty good, and frankly lots of people have an "adjustment" semester, where they figure out that college is WAY different than high school. and you weren't just "finding yourself", you had a family illness to deal with. you have proven that you are a good student . another plus in your corner is that you have gotten involved on campus, held two part time jobs and maintained your grades.i would think that dress for recruitment at shsu would be similar to that of the other larger texas schools-you might check out their panhellenic websites to see if they have wardrobe advice or call the panhellenic office at shsu. i would urge you to visit with former teachers, family friends, members of your church , co-workers(yours or your families) and get recommendations to each chapter at shsu. create a resume to aid these women in writing your recommendation. be sure to write thank yous for each recommendation that you receive. i do not know if being an african american will be a handicap in npc recruitment at shsu. i would hope not and i wish you the very best .

there are some excellent recruitment threads on greekchat that are not geared toward one particular campus and offer a lot of great general advice. just do a search such as rush tips or recruitment tips or advice.
