My fiance says soda, even though he grew up here and has lived in the South his whole life. I fail to understand it, and it drives me bonkers.

You TN people are weird. My father has been living there for like a bijillion years and now he says Coke instead of soda. Mountain Dew is not a coke. Pepsi is not a Coke. Actually, a Diet Coke is not a Coke, it's a Diet Coke.
Soda I say, Soda!
