Your point is essentially the one I was waiting to hear. I feel that binging is more defined by the mind-set in which one is drinking, rather than the quantity consumed, not that the quantity consumed is by any means irrelevant. Last night my buddy came into town, I had three pints casually, I am far from saying I was binging. I was tipsy, for sure, but the casualness of my mindset, I think kept me on this side. When you drink to get drunk, I think in any circumstance, you are officially binging. I think on beer one if you're thinking to yourself, "I'm getting obliterated tonight," then even on the first beer, you're binging. Yet, I think that on beer 7 or 8, if you're like, "oops, I'm starting to feel a lilttle tipsy," then by no means are you binging even then, but of course this is solely my opinion.

In this light, I'm not particularly sure that one is more unsafe than the other, and to be honest, at least if you're planning on binging, at least you can plan on what to do afterwards, as opposed to accidentally getting too drunk to drive, when you're prior plans are likely to be tossed to the wind. Which this new thought really puts into light whether or not binging is actually that horrific of a thing.
