Well, this summer as I was going through rush, I ended up meeting all sorts of Betas.
It turned out that my mom's boss was a Beta from Oklahoma.
Also my allergist was a KU Beta, and as I left his office I heard him exclaim to one of his nurses in a voice that could only be described as proud (even though he doesn't really know me that well) "He's going to be a Beta!!"
and also, one of my good HS friends--who is also a pledge this semester at Truman State--his brother was the chapter president at Truman this past year. When he found out that I was going Beta he called me even though he and I had never ever even been introduced to each other, and we talked for probably 15 minutes--he had several people that he had met from my chapter at either convention or a leadership retreat that he wanted me to say hello to.
Of course all of this happened in the course of about three weeks when I hadn't even moved into the house or anything so I can only assume that more encounters are inevitable and most definetly welcome.
