My turn:
I was another one of those women that everybody thought was anti-greek---not sure where they got that idea, but whatever. Anyway, my freshman year I lived in the dorms, and my next-door neighbor had joined ADPi (her roommate was a ZTA)....there were ZTA's that lived on the floor too----had I rushed as a freshman, I probably would have had Zeta letters on. But, as luck would have it, I got involved in other things, but continued a freindship with LBD, my next-door neighbor, for the next few years.
Junior year, I had a night class with another ADPi, whom I had become good friends with just through our business classes together every semester, and she invited me to a roller skating COR event. I went with her, after class, and had a lot of fun. I was house/baby-sitting for my boss at the time, and had to leave early unexpectedly, so I figured the sisters didn't have enough time to actually get to know me, to extend a bid. My chances were shot (in my mind).
A couple of days later, I checked my mail box and there was an envelope with the ADPi crest on it. It was my official bid!! I was so excited, and couldn't wait to get started with Alpha Delta Pi!!
Later, I asked how I got a bid, when I wasn't at the event very long. There were so many sisters that I'd had classes with, that had gotten to know me, and I them, that that wasn't even an issue! They were trying to get me to an event just to go through the motions for a bid......they wanted me, and I didn't even know it!
When I was and alpha, and then going through initiation, my old next-door neighbor, LBD, was the president that year.....it was so cool that she was the one who initiated me(cause I'd known her the longest!!)
ADPi was a fabulous experience in college, and continues to be even now. Sometimes I wish I'd joined sooner!!!!
