I had never wanted to join a sorority. Actually, a girl who I went to high school with was going to go through recruitment at her university, and we all thought she was nuts! I had this distorted idea in my head of what a sorority was, and I really didn't think it was something for me. When I got on campus, I looked into a bunch of things to get involved in and still didn't even consider a sorority. During that first week, each floor of the dorms was given an Orientation Advisor along with the RA to help get us all settled in and pointed in the right direction. My Orientation Advisor and I hit it off right away, she was the nicest girl! We talked about a bunch of things and she told me that she was in a sorority, but she couldn't tell me which one.
I got to thinking that this girl and I were so much alike that maybe I would like to be in a sorority. On top of that, nearly all the girls on my floor, including my roommate, were going to go through recruitment. On top of that, a girl I had just started working with was in a sorority and said I should rush "at least to meet people" and my RA was in a sorority, too! With all those things, I decided that I could at least go through recruitment to meet people, and maybe I'd change my mind about joining one.
The first night of recruitment, ADPi was the first room I went to, and I was the first in line when they opened the doors. The girls started cheering and singing and it caught me so off guard that I made the funniest face (as the girl who rushed me told me later...)
The girls were nice and seemed like they really wanted to get to know me. On the second night, I walked in the ADPi room and saw the girl who was my orientation advisor! Every night after rush, I would tell my roommate that I just knew ADPi was where I was supposed to be. She didn't understand how I was so sure, but I just was! I even looked up our chapter's website and checked it all out.
On Bid Day, we got our bids at noon and I was scared to open mine, but as soon as I did, I hugged my Pi Chi (who also turned out to be an ADPi and my Grand Diamond Sister!) and I couldn't stop smiling! I ran up to the ADPi room as quick as I could. The girl who "preffed" me ran up and gave me a huge hug and said she knew I was going to go ADPi since when she first met me on the second night! And the rest is history...
And I couldn't be happier
