I was in a similar situation and prolonged it and finally cut it off really abruptly. I just couldn't deal with the clinginess anymore. I felt like the guy had no other ambition but to be with me and that's a huge turnoff.
If you do decide to end it, you'll get the usual amount of phone calls that range from sad and hurt to angry and cussing to desperate fake suicidal messages but you'll get a new cell phone number and move on and months later when you bump into each other they'll still give you evil looks and you'll smile back because you remember how awful the sex was and how glad you're not with them anymore.
At least that's how it was with me.
