I too, am a veteran. Although I was not an officer I can say that many of the Black people who join the military do not join to 'serve' the country. It is another job, with what appears to be better benefits. Lots of the Black men come in to get away from the rough hoods at home. Some women come in to prove they can complete a successful tour.

We are often mislead to think we will not have to go to war. So we really never let that thought enter our minds. we are more focused on how they tell us that we don't have to pay for housing or medical and how we get the GI Bill and the VA home loan. At the same time they will fight against us to not give us the benefits that we joined to get.

Many of us do not want to be in the war, we disagree with the whole thing, but we signed the papers and that is our job. Just like you may not want to make the coffee, but that's your job. I know people over there fighting and I know those who have made it back safely. Regardless, of why Blacks join the military adnd the reason they are over there, just pray for the safe return of them all. Pray that they will not come back mentally challenged, or unable to find jobs. Pray that they will come home to find open arms of love. Pray that the people who protest the war support the troops. All in all just pray.
