Back in March 2001, I flew from Wisconsin (about 15 degrees) to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (about 90 degrees). Naturally, I arrived with my Beta Letters on, and a man about 45 years old stopped me because he noticed my sweatshirt. He was a Cornell Beta, and was leaving that day. My fiance and I sat with him and his family and talked Beta for about an hour. It was great, he was a great guy!
Another time I ran into a Beta, was while I was grabbing lunch with an old pal of mine at a local brew-pub. A guy walked by, tapped me on my shoulder and said "sweet shirt man" (It was a real obnoxious Blaze Orange, George Peppard T-Shirt that our chapter made). Turns out, he was Rhode Island Beta who moved into the area, and noticed my shirt. We spoke for about 10 minutes, and I was introduced to his wife. Very nice people.
Another one, about 10 of us Oshkosh guys had tickets to the Green Bay Packers. We had a quarter barrell and a Dartmouth Beta Alum. stopped by to say "-kai-" because he saw us all with our letters on. He and his pal stayed a while to "Drink of the Beta Brew" with us.
Oh yeah, one last one. My chapter road-tripped to Beta Pi, the Minnesota Chapter back in 1997. I got to know quite a few of those guys, and a few months later while at a Dave Matthews Concert at Alpine Valley, WI, I was doing my thing in the urinal and happened to look to my right and see about 10 Minnesota Betas doing the same thing. Turns out they were following DMB for the summer. To say the least, we washed our hands before we shook!
