I've never heard of Algar's! I use either Mrs. Butterworth's or Aunt Jemima REGULAR...I can't stand that Lite mess, or all the different flavors
When I was a kid, I used to use whatever my moms had a coupon for, or what was on sale. (I think that was a way for her to get me to clip coupons LOL)
Even though I keep mine in the fridge during the summer, I still nuke it, for like 20 seconds or so.
