New Department at work - not happy!

Ok, GCers, I need more advice!

TPTB have created a new department at work, and I'm now part of it. I was hired to work in communications and member services, but now I will also work in the payroll department, which means creating and stuffing checks for our 1,500 members. This isn't what I signed up for and I'm not happy about the change, I have no interest in payroll or accounting or taking on additional adminstrative duties.

What should I do? Should I suck it up and deal or should I go to HR and explain my position? I don't think that would help, but it would make me feel better. But then they might tell me to leave, when I made a comment at the meeting to tell us about the change my new boss told me that if I chose to "stick my head in the sand" I'd be left behind.
