Hi Maria and thanks for the welcome!!

It was at the 1993 convention, if I'm not mistaken, this "rule" about pregnancy out of wedlock was overturned. The original "rule" was that if a member became pregnant and was unmarried she wasn't allowed to be an active collegian. At the 1993 convention, after MANY LONG hours of debate this was overturned. From what I remember... There was a chapter that had a member that became pregnant from a rape. According to the "rule" she couldn't remain active... The member wouldn't consider having an abortion because it was against her religious beliefs and was planning on giving the child up for adoption. The chapter didn't feel that it was fair to be forced to turn their back on a sister... This member needed her chapter!! Not only was she dealing with being raped, but being pregnant with a child she didn't want.

Personally I'm glad that Alpha Gamma Delta now allows women who are married and or pregnant. These two parts of a woman's life don't make her any less "sister material".

I hope this clarifies!!
