I did do something similar a couple of months ago. Though my temp agency was calling it a "secret shopper" job, it wasn't really secret shopping. I was a Field Agent for Pepsi Cola and my job was to go around to different supermarkets and mass merchandisers (Target, Wal-mart) and buy Pepsi products.
