I work in criminal justice. And so does my dad, his three brothers, my brother...

but COPS MAKE UP BOGUS REASONS TO BOTHER PEOPLE ALL THE TIME ESPECIALLY IF SAID PEOPLE ARE BLACK. Whether or not someone smokes pot or has smoked pot in the past has NOTHING to do with stopping her NOW. A police officer must have PROBABLE CAUSE to stop and question someone, but the funny thing is that police make up probable cause all the time ("Someone called in your plates" or "You have a cracked tail light") even when it's bogus.

I think most cops are smart enough to understand that if this is questioned, it's a pretty simple matter to examine records and see if there actually WAS a complaint called in.

What's worse is that once the police make a bogus stop and the case ends up in court, depending on where you are, the judge will ALMOST ALWAYS believe the police over the defendant, so if the cop says your tail light was cracked or someone called in your plates, even if it's not true, you're screwed.

Again, I think I'm okay with that. S/he was sitting in a parked car on the side of a deserted highway in a car matching the description of someone who was harassing students down the road.
And, to be honest, judging from the tone s/he used here, sounds like s/he was giving the cop shit, too.
I have no problem with the way the cop handled this situation.
