Waiting 1 year?????

Okay...lol

Hello GREEK CHAT!!!
Thank you all seriously for giving people like me a chance to ask you all for advising!

Will my chances be hindered if I wait one year after I have already told the organization I am highly interested?

Senusret I 09-22-2008 10:17 PM

1) You make friends in the organization.
2) You tell your friends why you're waiting and hope for the best.

And dag, not even a hello.

lol--really!

Even if you do make friends & tell them, what are really the reasons for waiting a year if you're "highly interested"? I'm just guessing here, but maybe:

1. You don't have the grades.
2. You're not involved.
3. You don't have the money.

You interest isn't the issue here. It's your preparedness and ability to contribute that may be lacking. Here's another question more important than waiting: What do you plan to offer?

1st, thank you, Senusret I and IlovemyAKA for your responces!!!

Senusret I: I did edit my post for you!! I am sorry!!! Please forgive me! I am just so anxious!!!

IlovemyAKA:
I wanted the oppertunity to become involved with promoting unity and friendship among my fellow college women. I am a junior at my school, I am a business major and I am a member of NAACP. I have always wanted to join an organization, but once I got into college I wanted to do a little more research on what each sorority on my campus had to offer as well as the organization in general. I have witnessed the increased impact one organization has had on campus life and I really want to be a part of that. I want to contribute to being a positive role model for students on campus academically as well as with the works the organization does on campus and in the community. After seeing what I wanted in one particular organization, I had to make sure I was very accurate on my history. The sisterhood is so deeply rooted, I dont plan on loosing my morals, I dont plan on sleeping with men, and I dont plan on being something I'm not. I would be happy to be a part of an organization that was built upon service and sisterhood. I have everything in order except my GPA. At my school, we need a 4.0 and I have a 3.6. If my school doesn't take a line after this semester again until my senior year, then, I will have no choice. I dont want the members to be disappointed because I did not pledge like I want to. Should I be worried about the women in the organization? Because if everything else is "on point" next year and everyone sees that...wont that be a good thing? Or will the fact that I didnt do it sooner over ride the fact.

lol--I get the "rush" answer. I have never known a school that requires a 4.0 for greek life. A high gpa always looks good. All jokes aside, we can't speculate about your chances here. Visit the national website of the organization of your interest, and check the org's forum here. All have sticky posts at the top that give you an overview of code of conduct here on gc. Search plenty, and good luck.

I am sorry....we need a 3.0 and I have a 2.6......I wish I had a 3.6

ShamikaT 09-22-2008 11:41 PM

I'd say go for it.

I am not in a similar situation as yours, but I have a few roadblocks to joining my preferred organization.

I am optimistic that some day, be it tomorrow or 2020, I WILL become a Zeta. I just know it. I have the Lord...and a lawyer on my side!

A lawyer, woman!

Main Entry: law·yer
Pronunciation: \ˈlȯ-yər, ˈlȯi-ər\
Function: noun
Date: 14th century
: one whose profession is to conduct lawsuits for clients or to advise as to legal rights and obligations in other matters

Both are good for getting you out of trouble and getting you some money.

AOEforme 09-23-2008 12:30 AM

right! But I don't get how that will help you become a Zeta Phi Beta.... You can't sue if you don't get in and I really doubt you'd even want to.

(Sorry if I'm missing something! I'm just genuinely confused!)

Oh no worries, we're all cool about knowing each other schools and stuff...

AfricanDiva 09-23-2008 01:10 AM

I really think it is best that I not say.

Good for you... Then with that same logic, find your own answers to your questions like that rather than posting it on a public message board like GC...
