Most Underrated Cities
What cities in the United States do you think are underrated?
I think Shreveport/Bossier City, LA is underrated. I never hear anyone talk about the city. I've been there several times, but in the outskirts. I went down there again over the weekend. I didn't do much because I was there with my family for a funeral, and we were only there for a total of 24 hours...but I SAW a lot when we went sight-seeing! Downtown rocks. It looked like a mini Vegas and mini New Orleans. It was a way more progressive city than I expected. I thought I would see nothing but churches, creeks, pine trees, and confederate flags. Instead I saw big casinos, casinos everywhere period (one was attached to a gas station), titty bars that weren't raggedy, several gay bars, bars that stay open until 6am, a REALLY nice riverfront, hugest Bass Pro Shop I've ever seen, and we ate dinner at a good barbecue place (as good as KC's and Memphis' bbq). Psychics had their own buildings, up here you can only contact them by phone or at outdoor fairs. I'm not into that stuff, but I found it neat. I wouldn't want to live there, or anything, but it's a nice place to visit or swing by if you're traveling somewhere else. |
^^^ Now I definitely didn't expect that from Shreveport.

Baltimore. The Wire gives it such a bad rap. Sure you're playing bad block good block when you're there, but dammit I love that city. Grew up going there every weekend to Little Italy with my folks. And then when I got old enough, getting taken OUT by my mom and dad first to Charles Street (cause my dad is in LOVE with the marble bar at The Brass Elephant) and then later to Federal Hill.......yup my parents were the oldest people in there, and were just as wasted LOL (having your dad ask you "Is this guy bothering you" when some sketchy guy is hitting on you and sketchy guy thinks your dad is your boyfriend........HILARIOUS)
And then, my beloved city, Frederick, MD. Everyone calls us "Frednecks" but come visit downtown Frederick sometime and you will find AMAZING restaurants, fun nightlife, cute shops/antiques, and VERY trendy, artsy, culturally minded young folks. |
Outside the US--Abbottsford, BC, Canada... Go to the Orange Spa--provides all the spa services you can imagine...
The city of Hawi, Big Island, Hawai'i... It does not have the creature comforts of the large IGAs and ABC stores, but has all kinds antique shops and nestled eateries. The last little place I have been that is underrated is Bar Harbor, Maine during October/November. The major industries shutdown for the summer, but it still has flavors we had not anticipated. |

Which standards are people going by when it comes to Shreveport? I mean if someone is comparing it to cities like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, San Francisco, or whatever they are going to be very very disappointed. My point was that for a small city located in Louisiana, and that I had a lot of trouble find info on the internet, the nightlife was a lot better than I expected. No where that you would want to live permanently, but if you swing there for a night or two when you're traveling, you could find something to do there. Also, it's way better than St. Louis', which have a higher population, and is a little higher rated. Most of the bars close around 1am, strip clubs are illegal, they just started allowing casinos to be built on land.
Nightlife aside though, I do agree that it is the most nasty AND scary place I ever been too. It makes the worst areas of St. Louis, Chicago, and KC look tame. I don't know jack shit about sports, so I can't comment on that. |

You realize where most cities put the strip clubs and casinos, right? HINT: Not the "good nightlife" or "fun" or "underrated" or "nice" parts of town. You'll find few people that appreciate casinos and strip clubs like I do, but even I can't see where you're coming from at all. |

They get tourists going in and out every day, but they still manage to keep that sleepy town kind of feeling. |

I guess the main highway goes through there, I forget the marker number--20? IDK? |
