First A-A Women in NPC Sororities?
Hello!
I did a search but couldn't find anything on the first African-American women initiated into NPC sororities. As an auxiliary question, which NPC sororities are the most ethnically diverse today? I thought we talked about this last year, but I can't remember. Any suggestions on how I get this info? Thanks! :) Sal |
Sal,
I could be mistaken, but I remember reading that Barbara Delaney was the first African-American woman initiated into the NPC. She was initiated into Sigma Kappa in 1956. If anyone's curious, Alpha Gamma Delta initiated the first Asian-American woman. Diana Lam of the University of British Columbia was initiated in 1953. I don't know about the information regarding the most ethnically diverse organizations in the NPC, but I'd sure like to know myself if that information's available. **Barbara, do you know if the NPC makes note of this? I don't recall disclosing my ethnicity when I became a member of AGD, so I don't know how the NPC would keep track of their members this way. |
