UT question

hey yall sorry if this a weird question but i just want to ask someone random and unbiased if that makes sense. i plan on going through recruitment at university of texas next year, and i don't know how i feel about staying in an all-girls dorm. will sororities look down upon me if i'm not staying in SRD or Hardin House? i'm sure some wouldn't pay that much attention to something like that but what about the others. i'd appreciate any input :)

Well, if you don't know how you'd feel about staying in an all-girl dorm -- what ever will you do when you have to live in an all-girl sorority house? lol...

lol well good point... but that just feels different to me since i won't be a freshmen anymore and trying hard to meet people. i'll already know guys, have friends outside of the house, etc. so it doesn't seem as bad. i like being friends with guys though and would like the chance to meet some easily outside of alcohol/party setting if that makes sense. i don't know if any of that would really matter though.

SRD and especially Hardin House will be MAJOR pluses if you do happen to live in one of those. Not necessarily because sororities think the girls who live there are better, but because you'll be meeting/mixing with girls who are pretty well prepared for UT recruitment. If that makes sense. Most (if not nearly all???) of the girls in HH for example (I can speak to that more than SRD because I have friends who lived in HH) go Greek.

But you should know that getting into those dormitories is pretty difficult. You have to work your connections.

I don't think, though, that sororities will look down on you if you do not live one of those places. They surely understand how hard it is to get placed in those dorms - they're really high demand!

MANY MANY MANY girls who do not live in HH or SRD find their homes at UT! :)

Also, there are plenty of girls who live at Towers who rush and join sororities. I'm sure all residence halls have girls who go through recruitment. IOW, it won't be a deal breaker if you don't live at HH or SRD.

You're being silly. No one will care where you're living. There are far more important things to concern yourself with like grades, involvement, personality and recs.

I have to say that in my opinion you will have a much better freshman year experience if you live at HH or SRD.

UT? University of Tennessee? University of Trannsylvania? University of Texas?
Don't assume everybody knows which UT you mean.;)

Well, it should have been a dead giveaway, but the fact that you specifically mentioned the "University of Texas" in your original post should have removed ALL doubt.

True, but it's still good to point it out anyway. All too often people post schools by their initials only and not always reference the school in the initial post.

I guess you just have to be an old-timer to understand the inside joke.

Hijack! It's actually Transylvania University, and that's my school! lol, I'm sure I'm missing some sort of inside joke here, but I wanted to clarify!

End hijack

Good luck LonghornPNM! I know absolutely nothing about Texas recruitment, but I wish the best all the same!

I always get super excited when I see UW threads, until i open them and find that they're for the University of Washington....

My sister lived in Hardin and it was a big residence for PNMs and actives. Her roommate was a Kappa, two neighbors were Pi Phi, a lot of Thetas, and most of her friends were Tri-Deltas and ADPis. These were just the ones I met when I visited. I saw a lot of Greek letters and accessories.
