Evaluation of Programs/Officers

There is a science experiment: If you put a frog in warm water and very gradually heat it, the frog won't notice the heat increasing until its boiled! That's assuming it notices when its dead.

Obviously, this applies directly to organizations: if you don't have a way of evaluating your chapter or its officers you won't notice that things are going badly until the end of the year when a lot of things didn't get done or the quality was less than it should have been.

So the question: We all throw around things like so and so is doing a good job and so and so is not. What usually makes you come to that conclusion? And is it specifically in your By-Laws? And what do you do about it?

Pick two or three officer positions and think about it.

Everything that is included in a specific officers duties is outlined in our By-laws and our chapter constitiution. Any position, officer or chair person is evaluated by every other member at each meeting. We are allowed to do, in a sense, a pop quiz to see if a person in a particular position is on top of their game and know what is going on. If someone is messing up really bad, it's usually pretty easy for us to tell, because we are so tight knit and we are all pretty comfortable with the duties that each position requires. If things aren't going how they should, we try to help out, if that doesn't work, we replace (impeach) :(. It's all for the best of the fraternity

While we don't have feedback specifically in our bylaws, we do have our Vice President assigned to "take the pulse" of all committees at various times during the year. It's his main job, for heaven's sake! The entire executive board checks up on the Vice President to make sure he's doing his job.

However, we do have specific duties outlined in the bylaws that have to be completed in a timely manner. If the VP doesn't keep up on that, they could slip by and a lower success rating is given for that term's officers. I am confident, however, since I am the current VP, that this term will be the highest ranked ever... :D

Our by-laws have stipulated in them the specific jobs for each officer. Any officer not doing those jobs is in danger of impeachement. For example, my job is to handle correspondence with our International Headquarters, keep attendance/voting/phone lists, keep the chapter roll updated, and take notes at chapter meetings.

At the end of the semester, we hand out evalutations to the chapter, where each brother evaluates how the Executive Council has done as a whole, and how each officer has done at his specific post. That gives an idea how the chapter thinks each individual officer has performed, and how they are working together as a group.
