To anyone in the Tri-State Area (NY, NJ, CT)

Does anyone out there listen to Star, Bucwild and Miss Jones in the morning on Hot97? Well I'm interested in knowing who heard yesterday's show and what you think about it. Personally, I'm outraged. For anyone who doesn't know what went down, here's a brief overview. Well, they were talking about the Aaliyah tragedy and Star goes and plays this audio of people screaming and a plane crashing. I tell you, I was absolutely stunned. He actually thought it was amusing. Miss Jones got really pissed and went off on him. And if that wasn't enough, he's like "what? you're mad because I played this" and proceeds to play the audio again. Then Miss Jones says something else to him and he's like "well they told then they had too much luggage on the plane" Miss Jones then leaves the station(and rightfully so). Then Star is like "I'm gonna take this hating thing to the limit(or something to that effect)"

Now, anyone who lives in the Tri-state area knows that Star proclaims himself to be the king of all haters, and I'll be the first to admit that I find him amusing at times, but this time he has gone too far. There was nothing remotely amusing about what he did. I vowed yesterday that I would never listen to the morning show again until they take him off, or until the family and fans get a public apology.
Later in the day, I was listening to the 4pm show(Angie Martinez) and Q-Tip calls in with this letter he wrote to Hot97. He reads it on the air, and by the time he is finished, he's in tears, Angie's in tears and so am I. He states that he heard about what Star did on the morning show and also refuses to listen to, or support Hot97 any more. He says that Jay Z encouraged him to write the letter.

I know this post is long, and could possibly have gone under the Aaliyah thread, but I just thought that this issue was too important to post under another thread.

Anyway, to anyone who heard the show, what was your response?

What a shame!!!

I was talking to my friend about that the other day and we both wanted to slap silly that stupid ass Star... I will no longer listen to that show or in the morning I was stunned as I heard Q-Tip crying on the radio...they should be ashamed!

Star thinks he is untouchable like Howard Stern. I didn't hear the show because I stopped listening to him in the morning MONTHS ago. I find them offensive and I really like Ms. Jones. I'm upset that she is affiliated with them. I thought he went to far with the whole J-Lo saying the N word thing but this is really bad. He will not be stopped until people call, or write in.

OK...I'm mad now. I'm really saddened by the whole Aaliyah tragedy and to know that someone is joking about it is just terrible. :(

Here's what Star had to say (it doesn't sound sincere enough to me):

The foul-mouthed radio host known as Star on station WQHT (Hot-97)planned to apologize on air today for mocking singer Aaliyah's death with a
sound-effects tape that blared a woman's blood-curdling screams silenced by a loud crash.

"It was in poor taste," said Star, whose real name is Troi Torain, after a meeting with Hot-97 management. "Sometimes you do things without
calculating the repercussions. We're talking about a life here. It was a very tragic thing."

When Star played the tape around 8:40 a.m., one of his co-hosts, Tarsha Jones, aka Miss Jones, stormed out. "How can you play that?" she said.
"I'm outta here."

After the next record, Star told listeners, "Miss Jones has left the building. She was appalled and disgusted by this."

Then he played it again.

The bit triggered "some pretty intense calls" to the station, said Star, whose regular co-host, Timothy Joseph, aka Buc Wild, is on vacation. "But
I didn't do it out of malice. I was just trying to get a laugh, and it turned out wrong."

Yesterday's episode echoed incidents involving Howard Stern, Star's favorite radio host.

Stern played crash sound effects after John Denver died when the experimental plane he was flying went down in 1997, and he sparked an uproar
when he played gunshot effects while discussing the death of Tejano singer Selena. Stern ended up reading an apology on the air, in Spanish.

"This is the same kind of thing," said Star. "I'll apologize, and it will be sincere, and then I hope we can move on."

Petition

Who knows if this will do any good, but there is an online petition to get Star fired. I pray that it works. I usualy don't sing things like this, but this is an exceptional case.
