Carolinagirl's Fall 08 Recruitment!
So I've been a lurker for half a year or so, taking the extra insight on greek life and loving the recruitment stories so I decided that I should do my own! So for all of you that love reading the stories, this is an active one!
So formal recruitment starts tomorrow night at six. So far we've had a fashion show giving us examples of what to wear and what not to wear, pizza with a Pi Chi, and an open house which was last Thursday. Needless to say that kind of skewed my views. At my small school in the southern part of the States are four sororities. Since I like candy they'll all have some sort of candy name! Reese's Peanut butter cups Snickers M&Ms Skittles. So I'll make my first post sometime tomorrow night after all the activities! Wish me luck! |
Best of luck and have a GREAT TIME!
|
I'm cheering on M&Ms...they're my favorite candy!!!

Awww thanks for the support and encouragement!! I'm so excited I can't wait for tomorrow!
Obviously just like every where else we go to all the houses and then at the end eliminate one. Needless to say I can't wait until 5 o'clock tomorrow!! |
I love chocolate...but I'm throwing in for Skittles, because you should totally Taste The Rainbow LOL!

First night!
Ok ladies so tonight was the first night. At 6 we went to the meeting place to meet up with our Pi Chis and then started out. In between each house we had ten minute breaks and of course it was raining. So here we go, in order of the houses I visited!! Reese's Peanut Butter Cups The girls were yelling and screaming as we waited outside for our Pi Chis to knock and let us in. We got in and the yelling and singing kept on and I linked up with this really loud girl Annie. So we started talking and then they did a skit, talking about the sorority and the sisterhood. Then the now Sophomores talked about how they knew what we were going through and sang the Jessica Simpson song "With You" with the words all about RPBCs. It was soo cute! I'd love to make a comment about the beverage I was given but it will give it away because it's a RPBC tradition so I'll keep mum on that. Anyways, I talked to and really connected with two or three more girls, with Annie constantly coming back and she saw me off before we were ushered into the rain again! So far, awesome! I had previously been in love with RPBCs so I was so excited when my impression of them and excitement was totally added to by tonight's experience. Snickers The snickers group was high on my list too, right after RPBCs so I was excited to go to their house next! After waiting the required time we went inside, greeted by singing Snickers girls who sat us down and did a cute skit, giving us information in a very interesting way. Afterwards I talked to my host, Lauren who was actually an alum. We walked around and looked at the various displays and talked about philanthropy and sisterhood and I had a great feeling about it all. Not 1000% as excited as I was about Reese's but it happens. Before I knew it it was time to go off to the next house. I was still pretty excited about Snickers and it came in second. M&Ms M&Ms were yelling and screaming and cheering inside the house while we waited outside. It was craaazy. When we finally got inside we were picked up by a sister and of course talked, bonded, and had a fun time. The sisters did a song about the M&Ms to Baby Got Back. It was very, very interesting adn very funny. Here I got to talk to four or five sisters and I got to decorate a CD as part of their philanthropy. As of open house I hadn't been very impressed by them when some one walked off and completely ignored me after quickly answering my question about philanthropy. But after tonight my impression jumped a space and I was much happier around them, and really felt the sisterhood vibe! Skittles The Skittles girls were in my mind the stereotypical sorority. So on open house I was really excited to see that wasn't true and I really liked what I saw. So tonight while we waited outside and they yelled a cheered (at half the noise from earlier in the night) I was really excited to go inside. Well needless to say it turned back on them. The girl who picked me up was nice, and was actually in one of my classes. However she ditched me quickly, and left me with two random sisters, neither of whom looked comfortable or in place. Soon however another sister came and she was awesome. But the very practiced, almost fake planned evening of the sorority knocked them back down. It all seemed very rehearsed from the rewording of "Summer of 69" to the random bell being ringed to get everyone's attention, to sisters randomly standing up and spewing some super sugar coated nonsense. So they dropped a spot. Once all was said and done we went across campus to a computer lab and put in our votes. Mine were: 1. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups 2. Snickers 3. M&Ms 4. Skittles So yeah, there you have it! If you want any more info, I'm in North Carolina at a little school. Anything else you'll have to ask! |
Note: It might not have been the girl at Skittle's intention to "ditch" you. The sororities generally have a system in place to make sure you meet as many sisters as possible, which means that you don't stick around with the same person for a long time.
|
Yeah I know how the system works. But she literally walked me from the door to a chair about five feet into the room, said her name, listened to mine, and left me. She didn't make any effort at conversation or anything so I wasn't to impressed.
But whatever. |
maybe the girl was nervous? its possible! anyway keep us posted! we start our recruitment tomorrow, I love hearing about pnm's experiences!
|
My first formal recruitment as an active, I was so nervous that I broke out in hives! I tried to find a PNM that I knew already in every group because I didn't want the other PNMs to think that all the Alpha Gams were blotchy messes!
The chapters are often just as nervous as the PNMs - I couldn't keep my nervousness under control so the next two formals I was a recruitment counselor where I was more comfortable. Forgive them if they seem too rehearsed or a little flighty or something - they may be just as nervous as you are! |
Ok ladies so last night was second round and I never had a chance to post so here we go!!
At six I reported to our meeting place. Tonight was slightly more formal so I wore a Lilly Pulitzer dress, strapless, that was a blue and white sort of swirly flowery pattern. First night was camel slacks and a black knit top. Anyways! We were given our cards and I almost cried. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups cut me!! I was so. I couldn't believe it. One of the Pi Chis that is a very good friend of mine (I knew her previously and her house I didn't weasel it out of her) was so excited for us to be sisters... But no. They cut me. But upon hearing that they cut just about everyone I felt a little better. They had a large bulk senior class this year and only had a few open spots, and of course had legacies. So needless to say I was disappointed. So I had to go to Skittles, Snickers, and M&Ms. Skittles The Skittles were very nice. I got to talk to quite a few sisters and they sang for us. It was really cute. They redid the words to the Friend's theme song, of course all about the Skittles. I connected with quite a few girls and learned some nice stuff about the sorority and they showed us a video that was made on the national level. Remember that. I was really loving it especially since I connected so well with quite a few sisters. So I left there, considering keeping it in my top two. Snickers The Snickers girls were great. I was paired up with the same girl I had the first night. She remembered a LOT about me which was nice, but at the same time it was sort of odd to have her because she graduated in the spring and is technically no longer active. No matter though, I connected really well with her and another girl and I know some awesome Snickers girls. They showed us a really cute slide show of pictures of them and their events over the course of last year and it was really nice to see stuff about them. In the Skittles house they showed us a general movie about the sorority it's self. But at the Snickers house I got to see the actual girls I would call sisters, which in turn caused me to really see how sisterly they are and how much they really love each other. I loved that! That is one of the main components in a sorority that I want. I want sisters, a family, and they really showed that. It didn't hurt that they are extremely active in terms of philantrophy which was also big in my books. Unfortunately the time came to leave and I didn't want to! I really loved the Snickers house and was really sure that was where I wanted to be. So I said good bye and went to go to the next house. M&Ms The M&Ms... I didn't cut them the first night, they were my third choice. Like I said the Open House had put a bad taste in my mouth so I wasn't very excited to go to this house. But I sucked it up and got my self ready to go inside. I LOVED IT! The decorations all over the tables were sister's pictures and their favorite memories, and I talked to the two sisters I had talked to the night before, the president, and a few other sisters I know and I loved it. I truly felt the connection with this house and they also showed us a video. But it was videos they had taken, of themselves. All the girls did a little interview, there were videos of events and random trips, and pictures. It was great. It really, really showed me how important they are to each other, and just like I said the first night, I was really feeling the sisterhood vibe. After each girl is shirted they go inside and roll around on the floor to prove that you can do everything and anything in that house and that it is your house. I loved it. I definitely, definitely under no circumstances wanted to leave when all was said and done. So we went and ranked and mine was as follows M&MS Snickers and I cut Skittles. So sorry for all the Reese's and Skittles fans!! Tonight is third round and then tomorrow is Bid DAY!!!!! I'm so excited. Oh and it was moved up and hour because of a tennis match, so it's at 10 instead of 11 am. SO excited!! Wish me luck ladies!! |
Thank you for the update! Best of luck to you!!!
