2008/2009 Rush!

Hey Ladies! I figured we could all talk about our rush(es) here!

Ours is going to be the 22-26th (the same week as KKPsi rush! eee!)

I am pretty pumped about it! I will put out more detail when the chapter votes on it officially!

Well, as a colony we don't rush (we do individual recruitment and post flyers at the music building and such, and use lots of word of mouth, plus Facebook ^^), but our Big Sister chapter, Theta Beta at Jacksonville State University, is having their rush this week.

Their rush activities can be found here: http://mt.marchingsoutherners.org/fo...pic.php?t=4487

Good luck, all!

una, how long have you all been a colony? Does it look like you will charter any time soon?

My chapter is having recruitment this week. It started on Monday with Social night--where PNMs meet members from SAI, MPhiE, and PMA. Last night, we individual night #1 where PNMs attend parties at the two groups they can join. And, tonight is individual night #2. We are voting on who to invite to preference tonight and then formal rush is on Saturday.

This formal rush is very exciting for us because we are doing a preference ceremony! I am really excited! I wrote the ceremony and my little added some stuff to it---it's going to be absolutely beautiful.

Oh, Jessica, we changed some stuff. I need to send it to you. Maybe your chapter could use it this year! it's very simple!

AlwaysSAI, I'm not completely sure of exactly how long we've been a colony, but I do know that we're really aiming for this academic year to be our year.

Good luck with your rush there!

We had 13 girls come out this week and we invited 12 girls to preference which is tomorrow.

I haven't heard anything yet. I hope we get at least 10 girls this semester. That would be so awesome!

So, we'll see who comes tomorrow. Bids go out at preference. We worked the handing out of bids into the ceremony to make it really special for the girls.

(I think it will give us a one up on Mu Phi because they just left their bids in the lounge to be picked up)

CuriousWildcat 09-12-2008 07:58 PM

You can email it to me! I can't wait to see what it turned out like!

Good luck to everyone!

AlwaysSAI 09-14-2008 02:13 PM

Tonight was so amazing! And, the ceremony was beautiful! If anyone wants to use it--I'll email it to you! Like I said, I'm sure it gave us a leg up.

We had 9 girls come tonight. One girl wanted to come, but she had a church retreat. So, girls that weren't at formal rush will get their bid in their student box tomorrow. Bids are due back on Wednesday and then on Friday we're having a bid dinner for all the girls that returned a bid.

It really looks like we're going to have a class of 10 girls this semester! And, two are non-majors!

I AM SO THRILLED! :D

AlwaysSAI 09-17-2008 02:37 PM

WE OFFICIALLY HAVE 10 BIDS RETURNED!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Friday is bid dinner. Next week is secret big week. And, then next weekend is pledging ceremony!

We have had 2 rush nights so far!

Monday was an info night where we had pizza and a short musicale! We called it a Pizza-cale!

Tonight we had craft night! We etched glasses! It was a blast!

CuriousWildcat 09-29-2008 09:11 PM

We had Pledge tonight! We pledged 4 girls and have 2 who we gave bids but due to grades can not pledge until next semester. My new little is really excited and I am glad she is finally doing it! I have been trying to get her to for 2 years!

AlwaysSAI 10-01-2008 07:06 AM

We pledged 10 girls on Saturday night! Two non-majors! One Anthropology & one communications. I'm so excited! This is the most girls my chapter has pledged since before I was a member!

CuriousWildcat 10-01-2008 11:19 PM

Wow that is great! There were 10 girls in my pledge class but since then we have had... 6, then 3, and now 4! That is so awesome!

always sai : i'm just curious about these preference thing, do you guys pick who you think will be acceptable for your chapters or just by going through the requirements because we were all led to believe that anyone can join as long as the requirements are met. also thats crazy you have such a large class in the fall. we have 5 girls and thats the most in so long, our spring classes are close to 15. our numbers keep rising and rising. a lot of non majors are pledging now, too. which is amazing. i was a music edu but now i am not so its really awesome to relate to other girls in my situation. its easy to exclude them from everything but we have done a lot of work to make everything fair.

AlwaysSAI 10-08-2008 08:02 PM

Helen,

Per the Sigma Alpha Iota CPM, chapters have the privilege of selective membership. Page 12-4 at the bottom of the page under the heading "After the Party" states: "Soon after the party, the chapter will vote on membership or send an invitation to a second recruitment party. The chapter members must be reminded that they have the privilege of selective membership, but they must not abuse the privilege."

Keep in mind that we had 13 girls come out during our rush week and invited 12 to preference. While I cannot go into MS discussions within my chapter, I will tell you that we want women who are respectable, talented, live the standards of SAI and fit well into our chapter.

And, I am so thrilled about our class of 10! :D

helenenicole 10-08-2008 11:59 PM

Well, I may have to discuss this with some members. There has been some things that have come up the past few years that we were told we couldnt take care of the way we wanted to. I was just curious. Thanks fantastic you girls have such a large pledge class, do you have a large chapter?
