Are we National or International?
I just came across this while reviewing the thread for all the SK chapters ever. I noticed that at one point in time, Sigma Kappa had established the Beta Gamma chapter at the University of Manitoba from 1933-1955. I had not realized that we ever had a chapter in Canada.
I see that many sororities currently have chapters in Canada so when speaking about their GLO, they refer to themselves as an International sorority. Well, we did have a chapter outside of the U.S. before it closed so does this qualify Sigma Kappa as an International sorority? I know we have our European alumnae chapter (who rocked at Convention this year, I might add) but it turns out we also had a Canadian collegiate chapter. What do you ladies think? Sigma Kappa International or National? What does our NHQ (or IHQ ;)) state? |
I've never heard HQ refer to ourselves as International, but I think we should be. Our Manitoba chapter closed in the 1950s, and our European Alumnae chapter is only 2-3 years old (I believe). Unless we have had Canadian Alumnae chapters, we haven't been International for a while. However, I think it is time to reevaluate.

The European Alumnae chapter is 11 years old. :D

My mistake. I must have thought it was younger because there was such a fuss (in a good way) made about them 2 years ago at Convention. I could've sworn they received a charter. Guess not.
So either way, we had about 50 years not being International (unless there were Canadian Alumnae chapters of course). |
