Fall 2008 rush results- post here!
Hey guys,
I had dinner tonight with our incoming ELC and our outgoing ELC who has just been elevated to a great position at Oxford. They both had a lot of good things to say about how fall rush has gone for the Beta chapters they follow, and so it seemed a good time to ask everyone to post your results and what you think really worked. I will do the same for my chapter once we are done. Formal rush just ended, but there is still some time to finalize a few guys who were on the fence. So- how did you do and what do you think is most responsible for the results you got? |
No idea yet.
I do wish that Beta would drop most of the stupid programming they make brothers attend and focus more on recruitment workshops. Their entire strategy is backasswards. By recruiting solid men, everything else would fall into place. Rather, they currently want us to accept charity case that wants to join a frat and then spend countless hours holding hands and singing to try and improve brotherhood. Recruitment is where it starts. |
East Carolina currently has 7 members in their Lambda class. They plan to begin a Mu class some time in October/November and a Nu class some in January following the IFC's Spring '09 Recruitment.
We'll see how it goes... I'm extremely proud of the turn-around they've made in regards to recruitment. |
The selection process this year was difficult. We looked seriously at 19 well qualified potentials, however only ten men were selected for induction into the Beta Pledge Class of the John Carroll Colony last Monday. Pledge Classes start this week, with a planned Induction at the Hall of Chapters in Oxford in mid-November.
We're excited to see our colony grow in number, and we anticipate a similar size pledge class this Spring. |
We have five pledges out of a prospective 7-8

^^ Just curious, Nick. If you had 19 "well-qualified potentials", what made you turn away 9 of them? I assume that it had something to do with the chapter vote.
^ Is 5 pledges a good thing for your chapter? |

During the Chapter Vote at the end of Formal Recruitment we debated for a long time over every potential and decided only to extend bids to the 10 we felt could bring the most to our fledgling Colony. I'm not sure who said it, but during our discussion one of us threw out the following quote, and I think it definitely described the selection process in our Colony: "Beta can be good for everyone... but not everyone can be good for Beta" Not that the 9 we turned away couldn't have been good Betas, but we just couldn't see them contributing as much to the Colony as the 10 we selected. |
3 pledges left that make up the alpha lambda class
|
We initiated 8 into the Beta class of the colony in November. Forgot to post an update about that, lol.
You can take a look here to see a list of our Beta class (as well as all of our actives) if you so desire. |
