going to Philly

I am going to Philadelphia in early October. I am wondering what the weather will be like. Should I pack sweaters or will shorts be ok?

Also, anyone familiar with the greeks at U of Penn? Do they have houses to visit?

I visited my friend at Penn who is a Phi Kap. Beautiful campus, beautiful houses. Philadelphia weather is very similar to DC, the nicest time of year IMO. Probably upper 60s-low 70s, so I'll let you be the judge of whether that is short or sweater weather for you.:) There will probably be some nice fall foliage... I should go up there too around then!

Philly's awesome! I'd say plan on layers and check weather.com before you leave. Unless we have a "Native American" summer, I don't think it'll be warm enough for short. Penn has chapter houses, but I'm not familiar with their locations.

I second what the previous two posters said. October weather in PA can be kinda iffy. It might be nice and warm, or it might be rather chilly. Most likely, it will be like violetpretty said - 60's, maybe low 70's. And like jess_pom said, pack layers and check the weather forecast if you can.

As for houses at UPenn, this is the list I found from the UPenn Greek Life website.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I need to do some shopping for some winter type clothes. Also, is Drexel right next to U of Penn? Where is the muesem with respect to U Penn?

jess_pom 09-04-2008 08:17 PM

Yes, the two campuses are only a few block apart (Penn is at 34th and Walnut, Drexel is one block over on Chestnut and 33rd. Google map it.). Not sure what museum you're referring to.

I believe the Art Museum area (Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Academy of Natural Sciences, Please Touch Museum for Children) is about 2 miles from UPenn and Drexel.

If you are going to be in Philly for a couple days and have lots of time for sightseeing, you might want to look into getting the CityPass...$54 for adults and $37 for kids...includes The Franklin Institute, Adventure Aquarium in Camden, Philadelphia Trolley Works, Philadelphia Zoo, National Constitution Center, and choice of The Academy of Natural Sciences or Eastern State Penitentiary. Unfortunately, the CityPass doesn't include the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

But the Art Museum is "pay what you want" on Sundays!
