panhell ettiquete?? How to behave at a multi sorority event??
Tomorrow there is a BBQ that will have greeks from all the houses both fraternaties and sororities. How should i go about interacting with them? Is it ok to mingle with everyone or should i stay close and mostly hang around the sisters i want a bid from? Im not sure if i am getting my point across but any advice is appreciated.

I would try to mingle with every sorority. It's wise to be open to all sororities because once recruitment starts, you never know which ones will/won't invite you back each day and you don't want to get your heart set on just one.
Also if you are all over one particular sorority, it could come off as presumptuous and potentially weird them out (especially if you're all "OMG I sooo love XYZ, you're my fave.") Also even though it's just a BBQ, you should be mindful of what you're talking about with the girls and avoid talking about stuff that you wouldn't talk about during recruitment, suh as partying, drinking, sex, excessive boyfriend talk, you get the idea. Behave yourself because girls in sororities are taking notice of girls before recruitment and what you do (and what you say) at pre-recruitment events like these can affect recruitment. |

Don't put all your eggs in the same basket. Just as it's suggested to go into rush with an open mind and give all houses a chance, I'd try to meet as many people as possible. |
this is actually my 2nd year rushing (Im a sophomore), I have tested out all of the houses and Im about 99% sure that XYZ is what I want.

That's why we tell people to get to know as many of the other sororities as possible. We see girls (some upperclassman girls like you who rushed before) get their minds set on one sorority that ends up not inviting them back, and they end up disappointed. Recruitment is not a guaranteed process, and I see girls all the time who are so sure they're going to get a bid to "the one they want" and it doesn't always happen. |

99% doesn't mean anything if they don't want you. |
[quote=OTW;1707637]Is this an official event? Or just a party?
It is one of the official required panhel events (though Im not rly required to go since I already went to one of the panhell events.) Just wanted another chance to show interest in XYZ |

I've encountered plenty of girls who really wanted to be in my chapter, but we just weren't interested in them. That's why we try to tell girls not to make up their minds until recruitment starts because the process is so unpredictable. Girls get cut from their favorites all the time. This is especially true if you're at a school with a competitive recruitment. Don't believe us? Check out the recruitment stories section. |
I also don't mean to double post, but make sure you aren't being "overly-enthusiastic" about XYZ when you go to this BBQ.
Being interested in a chapter is one thing, but being all up in their faces can really turn them off. If you're hanging all over them and not really mingling (which is what Panhellenic events are for), they might think it's weird (especially if you aren't a PNM they know or are interested in). I don't really get why you need advice about this if you really only want to be in one sorority. Good luck with that and I hope they are as interested in you as you are in them. |

The OP, I wouldn't base your opinions on your rush experience of last year. |
Well, even though I'm not in a sorority, they do Greek BBQs at my school every summer, so if the girls are good about recruiting then (more often than not) they'll approach you first (especially Rho Gammas or whatever they're called on your campus). Just be polite and try to interact with all the sororities. :)

I would suggest you read RandomBri's recruitment story:
