Semi-Formal Themes

Hey guys! I'm apart of Gamma Phi Beta the Zeta Omega chapter at Kennesaw State University. We just recently established our colony last spring and we are going to have our first semi-formal in the next few months. I was wondering if anyone had any really good ideas for our upcoming semi-formal. We really want this year to start off right! Thanks!!! :)

How "formal" a semi-formal? In other words, do you want elegant, or more "fun"?

Um...they haven't really told us any specific details, but I would say more laid back and "fun." But any and all ideas are welcome! :) Thanks

I'm not sure, but I'm assuming you ladies will have an annual "Crescent Ball" - which traditionally is held during the semester in which FR occurs (so, for you and most chapters = fall). And it's formal (like prom) usually includes a sit-down, served dinner, and parents are invited. Which is why it's usually done after FR, so NM's families can meet their daughter's sisters. Then any other semi-formals can be themed. Sometimes it can depend on where you would like to hold them. If it's at a waterpark or something, it could have a nautical or ocean/beach theme. I know my chapter had one that was "a night at the races" one- so people dressed like they were going to the Kentucky derby- women in big hats and dresses, guys wearing white. Or Country Clubbing- lots of Lacoste, Lilly Pulitzer, v-neck sweater vests, sweaters tied over the shoulders, etc., and you can play croquet and lawn games at the country club.

You can actually get a great many ideas checking out Greek t-shirt companies - look at what other groups have done and be inspired.
