Is Joe Biden a fraternity man?

Does anyone know if Senator Joe Biden (Obama's veep choice) is a fraternity man? He graduated from University of Delaware in 1965. I do not know where his wife and two sons attended college. Other than John McCain's Theta wife there is a shortage of Greeks surrounding this year's ticket.

Barack Obama's wife was a rechartering advisor for the chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at the University of Chicago. (as opposed to Bill Clinton who was an undergrad brother of APO and Hillary who was an honorary brother of APO)

Biden's son, Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III is an alumnus at Psi U at Penn.

Michelle Obama may be initiated into AKA in the near future, as well. She was invited to membership.

There is a previous thread on that if you do a search.

I don't know much about Biden, but I do know that Evan Bayh, who was supposedly on Obama's "short short" list of possible veep candidates was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity at Indiana University.

Bayh is a Phi Psi from DePauw in Greencastle, Indiana - not Indiana University. DePauw has a very old and large Greek system for such a small school.

Evan Bayh

Evan Bayh was definitely not a Phi Psi at DePauw; he graduated from Indiana University and was a Phi Psi there. When his mother became ill and eventually died, he took some time off, but he did end up with an IU degree. Evan's father, Birch Bayh, a former US Senator was an ATO at Purdue and his mother, Marvella, was a Kappa I think.

Dan Quayle (the spelling bee champ!) did graduate from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and was Greek but not Phi Kappa Psi. Maybe Delta Upsilon or Deke? Does anyone know?

^^ Dan Quayle is a Delta Kappa Epsilon.

Jill Jacobs Biden is also a graduate of University of Delaware, but was there (I think) a few years before sororities were organized.

Still waiting to get and answer to the original question.

It's hard to research a negative - but I doubt it

His family was not wealthy, and the fact that he was even in college was a big deal. I'm guessing that with a double major and spot on the football team he didn't have time for anything else.

I saw an interview where he discussed how the combination of majors and and sports load was impacting his grades, and his dad made him drop the football because it was so important that he graduate (he said his dad really wanted a "college man" in the family).

From the U of D: "Biden graduated from UD in 1965 with a double major in history and political science, and went on to graduate from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1968. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972, at age 29.

He is a vocal fan of the Fightin' Blue Hens football team, for which he played briefly as what he calls a “half-baked halfback.”

Off topic, but...

I thought you had to be 30 to be elected to the U.S. Senate?

You have to be thirty to be a Senator, not to run for the office. Biden was 29 when the election occured but 30 before he got sworn in. It's sort of like the Olympics, where you have to be 16 in the calendar year (unless you're Chinese!)

Gotcha. I wondered if that was the case.

Can't find any information on his daughter Ashley except that she got arrested once.

His family wasn't wealthy with those degrees?

Those are his wife and kids, not his parents, grandparents or siblings.
