I know recruitment is competitive but this is ridiculous!
are we this hard up for a bid?
article A student from Gainesville State University is suspected of fraudulently using a University student's identification to participate in sorority recruitment according to an Athens-Clarke County Police incident report. The report stated that while Gainesville woman Ashley Williams was "attempting to rush a University sorority last week," she was asked by the Panhellenic Council for her University student information. The report states that Williams attempted to use the UGA ID and password of Kelly Hall, a sophomore from Duluth and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. "When asked to provide her UGA student information, Ms. Williams stated that she had left her ID at her home and ... used Ms. Hall's user name and password to log in," according to the report. Hall was notified by ACC Officer D. Cook on Saturday that Williams had attempted to use her identity to log in to University computers and also to OASIS. Williams had attempted to log into OASIS using a Social Security number and an incorrect password, according to the report. It is unclear if Williams was trying to use her own Social Security number or if she had attempted to use Hall's. In a telephone interview Sunday, Hall told The Red & Black she and Williams were roommates while living in Athens this past summer. According to the incident report, Williams may have obtained Hall's information this way. Hall refused to comment further. "I really don't want anything to be said about it," Williams said in a telephone interview Sunday. Hall and her parents are not sure if they will press charges for the felony charge, the report stated. |
very sad

how in the world did she think she would be able to pull that off? that's so embarrassing.
|
what was she trying to do?
|
I'm not sure that I understand what she was trying to do? Was she trying to "rush" under a different name or did she just want the other girls' credentials to be shown? You said she was a student at Gainesville State Univ. Why was she trying to go through UGA recruitment? Just for kicks?
|
Doesn't she know about AI?
A few additional reasons popped into my head. 1. Writing an article about rush, 2. Wants an articled written about her - i.e. 15 minutes of fame. 3. Identity theft so as to gather financial information etc. |
I dont really understand it either UGAmom
|
Maybe because Gainsville State U does not have a greek system, and she wanted to be greek, she thought she could rush using someone else's info and then pledge a chapter?

WEIRD!!! lol |

I'm still confused though, she tried to steal someone else's identity, but the someone else is already a KKG. The thief wanted to rush but the identity she wanted is already a KKG...what a dumbass. I hope Kelly's parents prosecute. |
I wonder though, if she was really trying to be a rushee or if she wanted to participate in rush as a sister? It would be helpful if we could read the actual police report, it seems as though there may be some terminology issues.

As an undergrad, I saw many instances of Gainesville students trying to use UGA IDs to get into football games as students and swearing they were UGA students. When they implemented the hand-scanning at the gates I actually saw a guy state forcefully that his handprint had changed over the summer! I suppose this was the next step?
Wow... just... wow. |

So we are clear, an undergrad gets their hand scanned at the gates for UGa football games? Do y'all have assigned seating per game (either some sort of season ticket or individual game) or is it first come, first serve? And are there other situations where the hand is scanned for admittance and or verification? |

If you are trying to enter with a student ticket, you are supposed to have your hand scanned along with your ID. This is because people will scalp student tix to non-students (particularly students from other universities who are visiting or students from Gainesville State who are fans). Seating is assigned, but no one ever sits in assigned seats. As of my freshman year at UGA you had to have your hand scanned to enter the dining hall if you were on the meal plan. However, if you messed up the scan you could enter a pin code, so people not on the plan would just purposely scan incorrectly and enter a pin they knew would work. |
