Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. joins NIC
While perusing the North-American Interfraternity Conference's Spring 2008 The Standard, I came across an announcement that Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. has joined the NIC. This brings the number of NIC member organizations to 72.
Congratulations to both Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. and the North-American Interfraternity Conference. For what it is worth, I performed a Google search and other than what was noted in The Standard, I could not find any announcement by either Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. or the NIC. |
Congrats to them, Omega Delta Phi (yay knight_shadow!) and Iota Nu Delta!

How does that change things re: membership.
It's a well-known rule of the NPC that even after disaffiliation, you cannot join another NPC, however, I've heard that IFC men can disaffiliate & join another group. I know doing something like that is unheard of in the NPHC. Also, like 5Knowledge1913 mentioned, I'm curious what the added benefit is to being in both the NPHC & the IFC |
I don't know what the benifit is, but they wouldn't be the only one. IIRC APhiA is also NIC as well NPHC

And to be clear, this does not mean that an NIC fraternity (or chapter) may even consider previously initiated men for membership. Some may, others may not. Quote:

It's funny how Alpha was not the first NPHC fraternity to join the NIC, but most people cite us as the example. :)
Probably because of a story a few years ago where the local Alpha chapter at UVA (I think) opted to leave the NPHC chapter and join the campus IFC instead. |
I actually knew about Iota Phi Theta, though I wasn't aware that Kappa Alpha Psi was a member.
