PNM reccomendations
Hey
I'm a PNM. I'm an international student and I'll be going through rush at UT Arlington this Fall. I've lived most of my life in India and the other half in UK, and I do not know many people who could write me recommendations. Is it necessary for the alumnus to know you, or is it acceptable to approach alumni and request a recommendation of them. I know it's logical that the alumnus knows you. But I just don't have a choice for real. Additionally, I think you guys at GC are doing a fantastic job. Just going through your forums helped me decide that I was going to rush for sure!! :) |
pf - here's the website for the Arlington Alumnae Panhellenic. The registration date they set is past, but yours is a special situation. I would contact them for a start, tell them what you told us, and they should be able to advise you where to go from there. Good luck! :)

even if you can't come up with the recommendations, i hope that you will go thru recruitment.i am talking in general terms, not about your campus specifically, but every year girls do receive bids that did not have recommendations. at more competitive recruitments it is rare, but even then it happens. good luck to you.

I don't know much about UT-Arlington's recruitment, but I would think that at most schools the members would realize that there are significant barriers to international students finding recommendations and be aware of that. At least I would hope.
Good luck with your recruitment and welcome to Texas! :) |
Thank you all
:-) I most definitely WILL rush!! |
From what little I know about UT-Arlington. References are great but I think you may do fine without them. Just to be on the safe side, I would do what 33 girl recommends and contact the Arlington Panhellenic. UT-Arlington has such a large international student community, I can't imagine this has not come up before and that those chapters make exceptions regarding references.

Thank you Just Interested.
Do you go to UTA or know anyone who goes there? It's true that it has a huge international student body, but only about 1 in a 100 decides to rush. That's what I was told by the GLO. |
