National website suggestions

Hi, sisters!

I am one of AST's new National Co-Webmasters. Please post a comment or PM me with your TAUsome ideas! :)

Suggestions can be regarding any part: the website in general, officer resources, Flickr, inCircle, etc. Thanks!

T<3AM!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not able to get into the Potential New Member section of the site right now.

Anyway... for the "Family and Friends" section:

1.) Maybe have an explanation of how the sorority, and Greek Life in general, benefits its members.
2.) Parents always have questions! Maybe add a FAQ section? Questions like "will the sorority interfere with academics?" ... then go on to say it requires time management skills, and then list the positives... support system, study groups, scholarships, etc.
3.) Breakdown and explanation of dues? When parents see their kids spending hundreds of dollars on something, they usually want to know that it's going toward something useful

FAQ's and dues breakdown could also be added to the Potential New Member section, if it isn't already.

Hope that helps!

Tau Love,
Katie

These are great ideas! :D I will work on them. Thanks for responding so quickly, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.

I am not an AST, but I was looking on your website for AST's symbols, flower, and colors, and I couldn't find anything! Some of these basic "fun" items would be a nice addition. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Fleur! :) They are listed under Fast Facts, but I will expand the section with more details.

PS - ASTalumna06, here is the new Potential New Member section and its Parent FAQ section.

I definitely like the updates to the site :)

And question for you... our chapter hasn't updated our site since I graduated (almost 2 years ago). We are using a program that no one seems to understand. Last semester, they gave the position of webmaster to one of the girls who was just initiated, and while she MIGHT know what she's doing with the program, she is new to the chapter and is struggling with what to include on it.

Some people on this site have suggested using companies to make a website for us for a fee. Chaptercommunications.com is one that comes up frequently. Our chapter could probably afford it (if we raised dues slightly), but something that doesn't cost anything would obviously be better, as we could spend what little money we do have on something other than a website. I wanted to know what program you use for the national website, or if you have any suggestions for something else.

Thanks!

What about a search button?? I look for that every time and never find it.

Also: I really liked the chapter directory we used to have. Can we get that back?

We have a search in the left-hand column, below the rotating pictures. :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Can you please describe how it was different from this? (I added links and a drop-down menu for finding chapters by state, but otherwise it has stayed the same since I got the office. However, maybe it had a different form before that.) Thank you!

Oh. I think that is what I"m talking about. Maybe it was gone for a while when the website was first changed? I distinctly recall being cranky about it for some reason or another...but I can't remember what I was looking for.

And AH! I never noticed the search button and I looked for it! Now that it's there..maybe a more prominent position would help PNMs? I don't know. Just an idea. Great job though!

I know that I am not an Alpha Sigma Tau, but I was recently on your website attempting to look for alumnae groups in my area (I am involved in an alumnae panhellenic.) It would be really great if there is would be a public alumnae chapter/association listing like the collegiate chapter directory. Maybe this is on the website, but as an outsider it was difficult to find.

Good luck! Websites are always tough to maintain.

Thanks, we're actually in the process of updating this. I'll send you a PM to let you know when it's ready. :)
