Hair Color

I'm getting my hair done in a couple of days, and I'm looking for pictures that show my idea to bring to my hairdresser...

My hair's light brown, and I wanted to dye it dark red underneath, with a few matching lowlights and a few highlights.

Any pics??

From what you described it seems as if you want a two tone hair color, is that right?

Something like this (but of course with the colors you said):

or do you want an all over color?

FYI Winni,

I spent $100 getting red put into my hair one time. It was invisible in two weeks.

That's kinda the idea I had....maybe a bit like this, too

A student from a few years ago just graduated from high school (after taking 3 years of cosmetology classes) and got a job at a pretty prestigious salon here in town. For the first 6 months she's there, her haircuts are free (they normally start at $35) and her colors are $10 (they normally start at $85)...SOOO, I get my hair colored for the price of a cheapo haircut. :-)

That's pretty awesome!! That's good that you are getting a picture too, so that she knows exactly what you want. A few years ago, a friend of mine got a job at a kinda prestigious salon & she was gonna give me a discount (aka free) haircut. So i went, and just kinda gave her a vague description of what I wanted (bangs, layered hair). When she was done with me I was like

I went in wanting something like this:

but ended up with something like this (except w/o it being so wild--it was flat to my head & teased @ the top)

Red is one of the fastest colors to fade so you'll need to be sure to use protectant. Since the color will be underneath it'll last longer than if you had it reversed.

VERY much agree. I'm the queen of coloring my hair. A big question that your hairdresser will need to know is if you have already colored your hair. Do you have any bleach in your hair? Permanent dye? These things will all alter how the color comes out and how long it will stay.

My hair was highlighted heavily blonde and lowlighted dark brown, since my natural color is a medium brown. I wanted the same red you posted, with black underneath and black lowlights. I had it done October 8th. By October 25th, the black had stayed but the red was now a light brown with reddish tint.

And if you're looking for styles, you could try the peekaboo hilight technique. The top of your hair is separated from the bottom in a star-type shape (your stylist will understand that). The hilights (or lowlights) are then sliced into your hair. The picture that epchick posted with teh blonde and black is pretty much the concept. I have mine with my natural brown hair with blonde sliced in. It's a great style if you have layered hair. If not it's pointless.

I dyed my hair dark red last year (out of a box)...and within a month, it was a lighter golden brown than it usually is....I thought that was odd!
I was already planning on telling her that red doesn't stay with me for too long, in case there's something else she can do or use to keep the color longer.

Now I'm hoping she can fit me in on Saturday morning so I can have it done before my high school reunion on Saturday night

Ok, so here's how our conversation went on Monday.
Would you think we agreed on today-Thursday, or next week-Thursday?

I would think you would have agreed on today (Thursday) because you said you had to be back at work next week.

WinniBug 07-31-2008 05:53 PM

Thank you...that's what I'd assumed too...but when they called her, she said "I have you on my books for NEXT Thursday." Grrr.....
