studying abroad

My school starts recruitment in October so it doesnt end till the next semester. i really want to join this year, however, i am also studying abroad the next semester when recruitment ends. Is there anything in bylaws by the panhellenic that does not allow a student to study abroad while still in the recruitment phase or am i A OK and can go?
thanks for everyone's reply....it is a real big help

There is only one thing you can do now - contact your school's Office of Greek Life. We can't help you. One quick phone call and you will know everything! :)

To put it as simple as possible, studying abroad = not attending events = no opportunities for members to get to know you = decreasing your chances for a bid.

I highly doubt there's anything about prohibiting PNMs from studying abroad. Why would there be a rule? Still, I'd contact Panhellenic and ask them directly.

Are you an upperclassman who pretty much knows what group you are interested in and has friends in that group?

If so, check w/ your school's Greek life office and see if you can receive a bid during your semester abroad. I would think you can, since you will be a full time student. However, there might be rules about "holding you over" as a pledge since obviously you won't be able to complete the pledge program while you are abroad, you'll have to wait till the next fall.

If you are going into rush completely "green", then as OTW said, it's highly unlikely you will receive a bid just because the women won't have the time to get to know you.
