Can moderators see all deleted messages?

I posted something earlier and then deleted it, and now I'm curious about my exact wording because I've gotten a PM about it.

Is it possible for a moderator to see that message and/or private message it to me?

I'm curious if I'm misremembering exactly what I said.

Ohhh UGAalum- you are sooo busted. Fess up now- whadya do?

Seriously though, I am not aware of us being able to see deleted posts. If anyone saw it before you deleted it, they could have copied the text into a file on their own computer, or if they left the screen with your post up on their computer- it would sit there even after you deleted it.

When you delete a post, it is gone for anyone who accesses the thread after you delete it. If it is on a screen someone is viewing at the time you delete it, then it will remain there until the reader opens the next page or goes to any other page on the site. And if they use their back button- they can return to the original cached page during a session of reading GC.

This is more of something where I think someone thinks I said something worse than I really did, and I had the impression that deleted messages hung around in "Moderator's Corner."

Or maybe that was a Happy Pony Land inspired dream. Moderator's Corner as a name particular seems made up.

From what I have seen, once you hit "submit reply", besides "posting" it also gets sent to anyone who was already subscribed to thread.
As I have not seen anything from you that was a dead end, I was not in the thread you posted in.

maybe it's saved in the google cache
what was the post about? just a couple words you wrote would work

UGAalum94 07-13-2008 12:51 AM

It was only up for maybe a half an hour before I decided I was just setting myself up, so I doubt it was saved by google, but that search was a great idea.

It's no big thing. I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Happy Pony [Rainbow- don't forget the pretty rainbows UGAalum!] Land is such a funny term to me.

Sure, it very appropriately brings one part of a horse's anatomy to the forefront of my mind (envision a My Little Pony doll from behind), but in general I think the reference is an insult to the equestrain community.

I checked to be sure, and I cannot see your deleted post- and so all is good. Besides, you and I do not always agree but I know you are an intelligent poster here. People don't get a throwndown here unless they deserve it. Whatever you said in that deleted post would not have changed my mind about your value here- and I think I speak for all the normal people here in saying that.

Ask the moderator of that forum or a super mod. The moderators are able to see deleted posts in their own forums.

I think the moderator of that particular forum (and maybe a supermod) can undelete a post. The rest of us can't.

I don't know whether the undelete feature lasts forever, or only for a short time after the post is deleted.

I'm also not sure if the moderator can read the post before undeleting it. I've never tried.

I'm going to try a little test on the next post...

DeltAlum 07-13-2008 11:52 AM

This is a test...

OK, here are the results:

I posted this and then deleted it. I went into the "moderation" part of the thread (which I think only appears to moderators), and undeleted it. The text did not appear before the post was undeleted.

Thank you all very much!

I've seen that happen a lot, also.

Does that mean that everyone can see what's been deleted? That's actually kind of a cool feature.

Only those who are already "on" the thread can see it/receive it.
Not a feature per se, just once a posting is posted, the system does not react to either editing or deletion.

I believe everyone who is subscribed, and opts for email notices, can see the post that is later deleted. The way I'm subscribed, I only receive email notifications for the first unread post in a thread. In the few instances I can recall, someone posted spam/inappropriate comments, which I could read in the email notification. When I went to GC to read any add'l comments, the spam/inappropriate comment had been deleted.
