Word to the wise- the last thing you want is a brother in this job.

I've seen it first hand, anyone who wants this sort of job in 2008 is basically a wanna be administrator and will sell their souls for the "politically correct" way of doing things at a university.

When you add a Brother into the mix (and any brother that would put themselves in this position is questionable) that is into this sort of PC Greek management job, they will do two things

#1- want to get into your business, and will feel obligated to be part of what you are doing to "put their stamp on it"

#2- they will make it a point to show how "tough" they are to their immediate bosses by showing no mercy to their own "brothers" , which I use lthat in the loosest possible way because the local chapter will begin to hate this person with a burning passion, and will not feel like this person's brother at all.

I had posted a lenghty post about this with the name of one such "brother" and the powers that be wanted it taken off immediately. So feel free to PM me and I'll give you one name in particular to look out for at all costs.

YOU DO NOT WANT A BROTHER FROM YOUR FRATERNITY AT YOUR UNIVERSITY IN THIS POSITION.

This is very interesting.

I am not sure what you are refering to?

Please PM me if you want to expound.

Granted, I am no longer a MOD on this Thread or anyother of GC!

I will be waiting with baited Breath!;)

Jason, my brother: Methinks thou dost paint with too broad a brush. Yes, the brother who'd been Greek Life @ Shippensburg didn't do very well. In fact, the last time I spoke w/him @ a conference he told me he was getting out of the Greek Life biz entirely.

However, there are various LCA's who've done a stellar job in this area. Off the top of my head...
  • Scott Jones @ Kansas State
  • Scott Reikofski @ Penn
  • Steve Dealph @ a number of campuses, including Northwestern, Butler & Miami/OH
  • Jayme Little @ UC/Northridge

I'm sure there are more...but I don't have my NIC Directory handy.

Bill;

You can throw 1000 names at me, I didnt see it, I didnt experience it.

I saw what I know I saw first hand- absolute disaster.

Also keep in mind, everyone was raving at the time, what a great thing it was going to be, the folks at HQ were telling everyone what a huge and great thing it would be etc. etc.

Personally, I like my broad brush, I dont miss much with it.

I was just letting brothers know...

IFC normally runs most everything on our campus anyway.

I graduate in May... so either way its not going to be my problem, but I rather have someone eager to get into this kind of job as a stepping stone, then someone who won't do well at all. Sorry if I hold my brothers at a higher standard lol

I think the individual can either be good or bad for the job no matter what affiliation is. But, it depends on the person and it sounds as Bill F said the Brother at Shipps was not all that well suited.

The current Adviser is a S A M with no chapter at my college and the last one was absolutly terrible and thank goodness moved to our biggest rival.
