PLEASE HELP, I'm Very Nervous About My Move to Houston, TX!!!

Hello Everyone,

I am in need of some advice. I just graduated and have accepted an offer with a very prominent company in Houston. The problem is that I'm getting more scared everyday. I am from a small city (New Orleans) and Houston is just so huge. Everyday my nerves are bothering me more and more. I have been to many cities, but it was only short-term, I even lived in Harlem for 3 months. Please give me some advice on how to deal with this. I am driving myself crazy, even the apartment hunt is killing me. I just want to calm my nerves. I Love New Orleans because everybody knows everybody. LOL. But, I know its not the best place to be Post-Katrina, so I chose to start my career elsewhere. But I think that I am starting to regret it. I leave in approximately 2 months, and I just don't know what to do. Please Help Me If You Can!!! :(

1. Hook me up with a job
2. Visit several more times and you will fall in love with the city- as I have
3. Hook me up with a job

and lastly
4. Hook me up with a job

If you follow these steps, mainly 1,2 and 4- You will be fine.

I'm sorry Teena, I appreciate your advice but I'm not transferring to this job, I just got hired, so I won't be able to hook you up with a job. LOL But I do appreciate your post.

here's my advice:

1. relax.
2. hook ME up with a job
3. hook teena up with a job
4. relax.

ok seriously. do you have any friends to help you move there? maybe having someone go with you for those first couple of days, to check out the area could be comforting. or conversely, do you have any friends there? maybe they can give you like a "welcome to houston" homecoming.

i wish i could give you better advice, i know relocating upon graduating is hard, so much change at once.

ETA: come on, if you can do Harlem, you can do Houston. youll be fine.

Just keep visiting and think about all the cool stuff you're gonna do! Maybe even find a cool store, park, or restaurant before you get there. That way, when the "newness" is overwhelming, you'll have a spot you're comfortable with to go to.

Check with your school's career center. They may be able to hook you up with alumni in the area. Congrats on your new job and move!!!

When I started reading, I thought that you were going to say you were from West Bumbleflick, Oregan, but you are talking about NEW ORLEANS! Are you from the Westbank?

New Orleans is considered little? http://www.pledgepark.com/images/smilies/wassat.gif

Read this thread as there is a lot of relocation help offered in the thread specific to Houston. Good luck. I moved to Charlotte 6 years ago today and I'm still happy with my decision.:D I love exploring the city and getting to know how to connect the city with shortcuts.
