Recommendations; confused a bit.
 

Okay, so I know recs are pretty important at major schools.
I think the reason why I'm having trouble is because I cant find anyone who went to my college.

So I guess my question is
Does the rec have to come from someone who went to the chapter at your school, or who's an alumni to the specific sorority in general?

They come from an alumna of a sorority that is represented at your university. She need not have graduated from or been initiated at your university.

At some schools, they prefer your recs to come from someone who was initiated at that college. However, if you're at one of those schools and you can't locate any such alumnae, I would argue that recs from an alumna at all are still better than none.

to further clarify:

i was initiated into zta at florida state university(beta gamma chapter). because i am a member in good standing, i am able to write a letter of recommendation to any zta chapter in the nation.

as adpiucf said, sometimes a chapter may prefer to have a rec. from a member of that chapter, but it is certainly better to have a rec. from any alumna than none at all.

Just to add: Some sororities active members currently in college can write letters to other chapters, but not their own.
Most sororities allow Alumna to write recs for any chapter.

Yeah some chapters prefer recs from their own initiated alums.

I'm more impressed by recs from those who are active in our org as an alum regardless of their initated chapter than from a member who graduated from here 20 +/- years ago and promptly fell off the face of the earth. But that's just me.
