Brokaw to replace Russert on Meet the Press

Tom Brokaw will replace the late Tim Russert on Meet The Press at least through the general election in November.

No word on if he will continue beyond that time or a new moderator will be named.

I'm betting on a new person because Brokaw really seems to want to be retired and only do special projects.

Glad to hear it will be Brokaw....at least for a little while. I've missed him.

Great choice by NBC. They understood each other very well.

Co-sign, I'm glad they picked someone like Brokaw for the transition. I'll enjoy watching him again.

I met Tom Brokaw a few times back in my NBC days. He is a very bright man and a consumate professional. I think he will do an exceptional job.

During an election season, viewers want to watch someone they trust. Excellent choice by NBC in order to keep ratings!

Thank goodness, I'm just relieved it won't be Chris Matthews or Keith Olberman. There would be NO balance, and that was one of the things that Tim Russert was so respected for.

I watched Brian Williams on Sunday, he did a pretty good job, but the work load would be impossible with doing the nightly news all week.

Not a huge surprise; Brian Williams has an insane schedule, so it was unlikely he would take over in the interim. I just wonder whether they'll go with someone in-house, like Andrea Mitchell or David Gregory. Supposedly Olbermann really wants the post as well, although that would be a longshot.

Going to the tanning bed 3 times a day does tend to eat up the hours.

I know they are both quite old at this point, but I just wish NBC would say "Come back Garrick Utley and/or Roger Mudd, all is forgiven."

Early odds on favorite seems to be David Gregory -- at least that's the buzz in the broadcast trades.

As for Brother Mudd or Mr. Utley, I think they've been out of the major network mainstreams too long, but nothing is impossible, I suppose.

I would have picked Don Imus

David Gregory always looks stiff to me, especially when he's subbing for Matt on Today.

I'm a little surprised that they were able to have Brokaw for that amount of time. I'm also surprised they didn't try to stick Lester Holt (who always fills in for everybody) on there (I'm kidding).

I agree he looks a little uncomfortable, but I think that has more to do with "Today" not being the right type of show for him. When he's on camera in other instances, he doesn't seem to have a problem.

The TODAY Show is a different kind of animal.

It's a combination of news, music, entertainment and informational interviews. It's pretty hard to find someone comfortable with all of those things in the same hour.

Conversely, it can be difficult to be a "hard" news person coming out of that morning show genre.

I suspect Gregory would be more comfortable in the straight news world.

Exactly my point - it fits someone like a Matt Lauer better (who, in my honest opinion, is a terrible interviewer of political figures). Gregory is much more of a newsman, and I would suspect would be quite comfortable in the "Meet the Press" format.
