Website Hosting

What service do you use for website hosting. I am the secretary for the fairly new Hampton Roads Ivy Connection and we're trying to start a website. We would like to have our own domain and hosting service, but most out there seem pricey.

Just wanted to see what other sisters were using. I've looked into Google Apps, but that doesn't appear to offer what we want. Others seem to run about $100 a year and while that seems high since we're so young, I'm not sure if that is the norm or not.

We use Dreamhost for Boston Phis (yes, we still do their website), but my husband hosts other websites there, so we do it for free for them I think. We use Go Daddy for the SE Region website, which he also does. I think he said it's about $20 a month, but we didn't choose to use them. I don't know if that helps you though.

Sorry to butt in, but I thought I could give my experience. $100 a year is a pretty reasonable price for hosting and your own domain. If you want cheaper, you'll lose other features...ie. ability to use your own format, unwanted ads, limited amount of upload time or bandwidth.

I signed up with HostMonster and have been very satisfied. It cost about $250 upfront for a two year contract. They have really good customer service and IT help. I think that the price was worth it just for the advice I've received from their help line and pre-written FAQs.

We use hostmonster which comes out to about 6/month for a two-year contract. I have created and maintained many sites and so far I have found them the easiest overall to work with.
