Shrinking letters?

Has anyone had success shrinking letter shirts? I am talking about the twill letters on a tshirt. I mistakenly ordered a Large tshirt, instead of a medium. I had bought a Large sweatshirt at the same time (I like those bigger), and mistakenly selected large for the tshirt.

It's one of those Gildan shirts. I am nervous that if I try to shrink the tee, the letters may buckle. Any suggestions?

Do you know anyone who can sew?

Not really, but I am sure I can find a tailor. I just hate to spend any more $$ on it. I guess I can just wear it as/is, and wear long shorts or jeans with it, or maybe in the winter with a long-sleeve shirt underneath. Sigh, it's so darn cute, too!
