FSU Recruitment! Any Help?

I'm really interested in rushing this fall at FSU!

I know that it's always best to wait until rush week to decide which sororities interest you the most, however, I'm trying to do my research to be prepared ahead of time.

Is there anything I can do to help my chances of receiving a bid?
I understand that most sororities accept REC letters, but are they necessary?

Also, I would love to receive anyones opinion about the PANHELLENIC ASSOCIATION sororities at Florida State!

Gooooo Noles!:D

1) There have been several FSU rush threads over the years that you might want to read. Please do a search because they may be useful to you. Also, you might want to read adpiucf's General Advice thread in the Sorority Recruitment forum

b) GET RECS TO EVERY SORORITY. All NPC sororities accept rec letters, and yes, they are necessary. If you need help securing recs, contact the Alumnae Panhellenic nearest you. Recs info can also be found in the above mentioned thread.

iii) No one on GreekChat will offer any personal opinions on any of the sororities at FSU. Many people consider it un-Panhellenic to discuss opinions and reputations. It's best to go into recruitment with an open mind. Pay no attention to "tent talk" you might find online or in your rush groups...and especially via PMs when frat boys offer their opinion. Their opinions tend to be superficial and shallow. They know no better and have no idea what it's like to be Panhellenic anyway.

Do you know what sororities you may be interested in? I go to FSU so hit either me or FSUZeta up with any questions via a PM.
Also, I will be more than happy to give my opinion of any sorority... but only in a PM.

I think she was complimenting you on maintaining discretion by offering to discuss the chapters there in detail only by PM rather than putting it on blast on the forum.

That was absolutely what I was doing. ^^
(Sorry for any confusion)

Well thank you.
Nolegirl, are you coming up for Summer C or enrolling in the fall?

Thanks to everyone who has given advice!

Letters of Introduction (recs) are an absolute necessity at FSU as are top grades and a variety of activities. First cuts are usually grade related and with the new release figures, some of the larger chapters cut 50-60% of PNMs for first round. Although you need 2.5 to apply for Recruitment, most chapters are looking for 2.8 - 3.0 and higher. FSU is quite competitive, however all the chapters are outstanding and there is something for everyone. As was stated earlier, don't listen to the tent talk and maximize your options (aka, keep an open mind!).

Here's FSU's official recruitment website, which is probably your best source of info:

Hope the PM helped, I'm gonna talk to my friend who's a rho gam really soon and I'll get back to you!
As you'll soon find out, I am easily the most beloved member of this messageboard.

All the sororities at Florida State are unique and have something different to offer. It's important to keep an open mind when going through recruitment and to NOT go by reputations/stereotypes (most are not true anyway). I have many friends who joined a sorority based on a reputation and they have often told me they regret it. I went into recruitment with an open mind and LOVE the house I got- they say that the house chooses you, which makes total sense because the girls in that house know who will fit and and who will not. Be yourself during recruitment and take everything in, and I promise you will end up where you belong! What do you want a sorority to do for you? Figure out what you are looking for so that when you are at every house you can figure out if they have it. For example, are you looking for a house that is very involved on campus? A house that wins a lot of things? A house that has a strong sisterhood? A house with pretty girls? A house that likes to go out? A house that is very friendly? You can find all of these things in different houses on FSU's campus. I wish you lots of luck and am glad you are thinking about going through recruitment! It's a long, hot week, but it is TOTALLY worth it!

Well, I was wrong. The Greek magazine is called the Tomahawk, not the Renagade.
