Hi everyone!
okay so I will be attending UCF and I'm planning on rushing. I did my research and obviously rush is verry competitive. To add to the competitiveness, I am from PA. And also I have no relatives that are Greek , and hardly know anyone that is. But i know Greek Life's for me=)!so i was just wondering if any florida alums could help me out with a few Q's.


-Are there specific orientations that I would have to attend if i was rushing?
-Overall, are UCF, UF & FSU steryotypical when it comes to being from out of state and stuff?
-Do you suggest getting recs to every house? If this is not possible, will i be at a big dissadvantage or do most girls not have them?
-Is rush really as intense as they say it is?


I dont know one person going there but I am pretty outgoing so thats a plus, just very pale. haha

I don't feel like UCF is as competitive as UF or FSU, but of course I can only speak for certain on FSU. I have a few friends in different sororities at UCF (Zeta and Pi Phi off the top of my head) and they didn't seem to think recruitment was terribly competitive. What do you mean by "being stereotypical when it comes to being out of state"?

I read that statement as "do out of state girls even stand a chance of getting a bid?".

Get recs. Competitive or not, you can't go wrong with recs to the sororities on this campus.

UCF recruitment is moderately competitive. You will not be prejudiced for being an out-of-state resident. If anything, it helps make you more memorable because most UCF students are from Florida.

I had sisters and Greek friends at UCF who weren't Floridians who had great recruitments. In addition, the sorority was truly a home away from home for these members because they weren't able to travel home to their families as frequently as the in-staters.

Yes. There is a kickoff event the day before recruitment. You will be informed about this when you register for recruitment with UCF Panhellenic.

UCF is not.

More and more girls have them.

It's very hectic and can be emotional. You're caught up in the moment, and it's sometimes challenging to put in perspective that you've had maybe 20 minutes worth of conversations with a sorority, yet you're feeling crushed if they cut you.

Good luck! It's a fun, albeit a bit stressful, but well worth it! I highly recommend exploring Greek Life if you're attending UCF!

I think adpiucf answered the majority of your questions but I'll throw in my 0.02 since I'm also a UCF alum.

Go to the kick off. I don't think it's mandatory (it might be now though) but it's important you meet your Rho Gamma. She'll explain what will happen through out the week and it'll give you a chance to ask questions.

I don't think any of those 3 are as stereotypical as schools like Ole Miss or LSU. Things may have changed since I graduated but I don't think they would've changed that much. In a sense, it may help that you're out of state. Nobody will know your high school reputation so you'll only be judged on how you present yourself during recruitment week.

Get them. They're not mandatory like other schools but they're good to have.

UCF rush has gotten more and more competitive over the years. It's intense but not as intense as an SEC school's rush.

see if you can find an alumnae panhellenic chapter near you. you could contact them and explain that you will be attending college in florida and were hoping that some of the ladies might agree to speak to you(either in person or on the phone) and then perhaps they would write you a rec.

There are alumnae Panhellenics in Pittsburgh (here's their link - http://www.pghpanhelalum.org/ ), Philly and Reading. The ladies in the Pittsburgh one are wonderful and I'm sure they would be happy to help you.

Enjoy UCF! Many people I have known attended there and they truly enjoyed their time there.

You have been given excellent advice from everyone. I actually think you may have a slight advantage and you will be a bit more memorable. All you need to do is get those recs off and select your rush clothing and step it up! The more you sparkle during recrutment you rise above and fine yourself a home. Best of Luck.

ahh im just so excited to get there it seems like forever away
& i never saw it that way but now that i think of it, it might actually be a advantage for me to be from pa. i guess we'll see

Also, before going straight to the Alumnae Panhellenic nearest you, tell your high school teachers, friends of your sister/sisters of your friends, coaches, directors, staff at your high school, women you know from your place of worship (if that applies to you), your mother's friends/your friends' moms, women from your job etc. that you are going through recruitment. If you can "discover" any alumnae that you already know, it is better to have them write you a rec because it will be more personal. Also, when you find one sorority alumna (even if she is a member of a sorority without a chapter at UCF), she will often know women from other sororities, so make sure you ask about that too. "Friend of a friend" recs are still good too. Try to find as many sorority women through your own contacts before getting recs from the APH. Even in Pennsylvania, I'm sure you can probably find some sorority alumnae.

This is great advice! Your local Alumnae Panhellenic can be a great source of information! I didn't go to UCF, but from what I have heard recruitment is competitive so having recs for as many houses as possible is a great thing! I have several friends at UCF who love Greek Life there! It is a great experience!
